About our Medication Clinic

Medication Management Services at NSCC

We provide medication services for ages 16 years and up. Our referral process includes review of your request by our psychiatrist to determine appropriateness for our agency. Internal clients may request a referral through their individual therapist. Individuals may also call our Intake Department and request a “Meds Only” referral to be submitted directly to the psychiatrist. Referrals are approved or denied.

Individuals may be recommended to individual therapy to be approved. Parents/guardians must be present for all appointments with minors. We do not prescribe Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) or Clozaril (clozapine). Medical records and/or labs may be requested. Clients are seen on an on-going basis, typically monthly and at the prescriber’s discretion. Clients must be seen at least every 90 days.

Below is a list of considerations and possibly accepted diagnoses, including, but not limited to:

• Mood Disorders: bipolar, depression and schizoaffective disorders
• Anxiety Disorders: broad spectrum
• Post Traumatic Stress Disorders
• ADHD *with neuropsychological testing or formal diagnosis provided
• Schizophrenia
• One-time consultation with a prescriber

Below are reasons and/or policies that may exclude someone from the NSCC Medication Clinic:

• History of non-compliance with treatment (e.g., attendance issues, not taking meds as prescribed)
• Complex medical and/or psychiatric diagnoses that require more intensive monitoring and/or a higher level of care
• Pregnancy: pregnant clients are referred to local specialists
• Recent high-risk behavior and recurrence of psychiatric hospitalizations and/or suicide attempts
• Polypharmacy connected to multiple medical co-morbidities
• Active or recent substance misuse and polysubstance use
• Seeking addictive/controlled medications for persons with a history of substance abuse
• Memory concerns: many forms of dementia
• No benzodiazepines/pain medications for persons 65 years or older
• No benzodiazepines/pain medication for persons in Methadone treatment

Referrals are reviewed and discussed on a case-by-case basis. While the goal of the Medication Clinic is to provide medication management, prescriptions are not guaranteed.

We hope your experience with us will be positive!
